How do you get a job as medical biller without any medical billing experience?

I have a bachelor’s degree in economics. It seems like a two year technical career would have been much more practical. Anyway, I work in a hospital following up with uninsureed patients/patients who have several possible payors. I would like to be a medical biller. Tips?

Some schools offer courses that you can finish within 6 months. Take those and you’ll get a job in no time.

you are going to have to go to college or a trade school to get some training but since you have a degree you shouldnt have to do the full coarse just get the training to get the license. that is a very nice career pays good but will need training for it

At the very least, you will need to take courses in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and ICD-9 and CPT coding. Then, of course, armed with all this knowledge, you have to figure out how to outsmart insurance companies that do not want to pay claims and how to convince patients with no money to pay bills which are usually too high and almost always inaccurate. Why not go to work for IRS instead? You will be better liked.

you have to take courses to become a medical billing person- i once looked to see if i could do it as an extra-curricular medical job that would expose me to the medical field (im going to medical school), and every job requires you complete the medical billing courses. its pretty pricey so thats unfortunate, but thats the only way you can really get a job in that field.
